About Diploma of Financial Planning at Melbourne Polytechnic

Do you want to be the financial planner or financial adviser who stands out from the crowd?

Our face to face learning approach in the Diploma of Financial Planning program develops the essential skills and knowledge required to enter the financial planning industry. This course combines specialist knowledge and financial planning skills to prepare you for providing personal advice to retail clients.

The program particularly suitable for students who are:

  • Working within the financial planning profession, looking to meet ASIC's qualification requirement as an authorised financial adviser;
  • Wanting to enter/re-enter the industry and require the industry endorsed RG146 qualification to provide advice;
  • Seeking to expand existing industry skills and knowledge;
  • Employee advisers working in practices, wealth creation divisions of financial services product manufacturers, such as AXA and AMP;
  • Commission only advisers running or working in a financial planning practice

Industry Connections and Resources

To meet the industry requirements, Melbourne Polytechnic offers an additional 6 elective units that are required to obtain the ASIC units and related pre-requisites needed by the financial services industry to work as a financial planner and/or para-planner who is required to provide holistic advice in relation to life insurance, superannuation, managed investments and securities.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

You can seek RPL where your work or qualifications of an advanced and related nature have been undertaken. Academic Credit is granted on a case-by-case basis, according to our Academic Credit policy and associated procedures. Applications for Academic Credit will be assessed by relevant Melbourne Polytechnic academics and where appropriate, industry experts.
