About Strategy and Management, MSc - at NHH Norwegian School of Economics

Master's in Strategy and Management

Degree: MSc in Economics and Business Administration
ECTS credits: 120
Duration: two years

The Master's in Strategy and Management offered by the NHH Norwegian School of Economics is fundamentally about understanding why some businesses succeed while others do not.

Strategy and Management at NHH focuses on two sets of fundamental questions that illuminate this overarching theme in different ways:

What creates differences in performance between businesses and industries and why do such differences persist over time, and how can firms use this knowledge to create effective strategies?

How can firms—through leading and developing individuals, groups, and organisations—implement strategies or carry out complex change processes?

Subject areas

The Strategy and Management programme comprises two different areas of expertise/themes, "Strategic Analysis" and "Organisation and Leadership".

  • The Strategic Analysis theme examines theories, mechanisms, and practical frameworks that can be used to understand why differences in performance both between and within markets can arise, how and why such differences can persist over time, and how this affects strategic decisions in companies.
  • The Organisation and Leadership theme examines the business itself, with a focus on the challenges business leaders meet when they plan to implement or deploy strategies, how one should lead and develop the business’s human resources, and how one can carry out complex organisational changes.

NHH candidates quickly find relevant, well paid jobs after their studies, shows NHH’s labour market survey (2018). The labour market survey is an annual survey of how NHH graduates are received in the labour market. It was sent to the 489 candidates who graduated in spring 2018.

The responses show that over 92 % had found work six months after completing their master’s degrees. About 3.5 % of the candidates chose to continue their studies at NHH or other educational institutions. Among those in employment, 85.6% stated that they had received a job offer before they had graduated. 96 % consider their work to be relevant to their education from NHH.
