About Live and Technical Events Top Up at Nottingham Trent University

This one-year top-up degree is designed designed for those students who have completed a Level 5 qualification in a related discipline, and wish to further pursue their studies within this specialist field of creative technology.

How you're taught

You'll develop your knowledge and specialism through live events, workshops lectures, seminars, tutorials, working in teams, independent learning, industry input, supervision meetings and field trips.

Degree Show

In your final year you will exhibit your work as part of Confetti's Degree Show. This event includes all final year students across Confetti's courses and is a great platform for you to showcase your work to key influencers across the creative industries

Careers and employability

There is a core emphasis on developing your employability skills. Throughout the course you will be expected to work collaboratively with designers, other content creators, consumers and clients. Many of your project briefs will include work on real-world live event projects, ranging from live music, corporate events and installations. The diverse nature of the projects offered throughout the course aims to directly mimic industrial working practices, enabling you to further develop the skills and qualities necessary for sustained employment in the live events industry.Typical roles in industry might include:
  • front of house sound operators and monitor engineers;
  • product specialists;
  • production managers / crew;
  • stage / lighting designers;
  • lighting technicians;
  • visual effects production; and
  • event organisers.


This course is taught at Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies in their dedicated HE Centre and studio facilities.

Facilities and equipment include:

  • Our own dedicated production rehearsal space
  • Midas Venice 32 channel analogue live console
  • A large selection of microphones from leading manufacturers such as Shure, AKG, Neumann, Audio Technica.
  • Extensive backline equipment including Gretsch and Yamaha drum kits, Vox, Fender and Marshall amplifiers
  • Avolites Titan lighting console with touchscreen laptop
  • A range of Chauvet lighting
  • Avid Pro Tools based mobile recording rigs

Notes about fees for this course

The tuition fee for UK home students joining NTU in 2018/19 on a full-time undergraduate/foundation degree programme, will be £9,250.

The fee for those who have a year-long placement as part of a sandwich course, or spend a year studying or working abroad will be published here once confirmed.

The University reviews its tuition fees each year. The fees for Home (UK / EU) undergraduate students for 2018-19 are £9250. As a guide and to enable you to plan your finances the current expectation is that the University’s current fee of £9250 per annum may increase for subsequent years of study in line with inflation and as specified by the Government.
