About Business Management (1 year In-Company) at Nottingham Trent University

Do you want to study something different and stands you out from other graduates?

Then our Business Management (1 Year In-Company) course is for you!

Nottingham Business School created this distinctive course to offer a unique work-based learning experience, which will enhance your employability and enable you to have an impact in the workplace.

This course will enable you to develop your self-confidence, self-reliance and independence and enable you to take responsibility for your own learning and career development. It will help develop your professionalism and ability to work as part of a team and as an individual.

During your first year you will be studying at Nottingham Business School and will be introduced to the basics of business and also prepare you for employment by adopting a professional approach to learning and work. During Year Two, you will complete work-based learning whilst on placement. You will then return to full-time studies in your final year.

Due to the nature of the course you will pay attention to problem solving and explaining how things occur rather than simply knowing more.

In some circumstances students choosing this course may have the opportunity to switch to the BA (Hons) Business Management (2 Year In-Company) course after their second year and complete their final year in employment.

If you are motivated and passionate for a career in business then this could be the course for you.

Nottingham Business School is in the 1% of business schools worldwide to have both EQUIS and AACSB accreditation.

How you're taught

The assessment methods we use reflect the work-based nature of the course. Most assessments are practical focused and will include individual and group coursework and presentations; investigative and problem focused reports; learning and development portfolios, journals and reports; showcase events and consultancy project; case studies and action-orientated research projects.

When learning in the workplace the course and assignment design provides benefits for both you and your placement company, and unlike traditional four-year placement degrees, learning during this time will count towards your final degree.

All students will attend lectures and seminars at NTU's City Campus, in the impressive Newton building, home to Nottingham Business School.

You will also have a number of one-on-one tutor sessions during each year, which will allow you to:

  • discuss your personal and professional development
  • discuss and gain feedback about your work
  • ask questions about the projects you're working on
  • raise any difficulties you are experiencing relating to your work, personal circumstances or your University experience.

You'll also use our virtual learning environment, NOW, which is a flexible web-based system that gives you 24-hour access to module learning materials and reading lists. It allows you to discuss work with tutors and submit coursework electronically from anywhere in the world.
