The MSc International Accounting Practice is designed to combine technical skills in accounting and business analysis, with the development of key competences in team work, business acumen, effective communication and critical thinking.
Building on the excellent reputation of our Department for producing high calibre accounting graduates, recognised by all of the major accounting practices and other industry partners, the MSc International Accounting Practice will provide students with the skills required to gain a significant number of exemptions from the main international accountancy bodies and invaluable work/research experience; all of which will create huge opportunities for subsequent employment – either internationally or nationally.
Course Details
The MSc International Accounting Practice is a 12 month programme designed for those preparing to work asaccounting professionals, in Ireland and internationally. It is a comprehensive programme, requiring significant student participation and engagement.
Induction week
As well as giving you a chance to meet your class mates, the workshops introduce you to key concepts ofaccounting. You also focus on improving IT, communication and presentation skills.
Semester One (35 credits)
Modules focus on teaching key concepts and calculative techniques in accounting and finance, providing the in-depth knowledge and expertise needed to apply these to organisational decision-making.
Semester Two (35 credits)
Modules focus on analysis, application and critical thinking. As well as extending technical knowledge, case-based and group-based learning is used to engage with materials from a critical perspective.
Semester Three (20 credits)
Under the supervision of an academic mentor, you either carry out and document research and practice in an organisational context or undertake an accounting placementtypically of practical significance to organisations.

Course Practicalities
To successfully complete the MSc International Accounting Practice course, you complete an induction week, nine taught modules and 20 credits devoted to either placement or a research project.
Lectures are scheduled across twosemesters. You should anticipate spending up to three hours preparing and studying outside of lecture time, for each hour of lectures. The course is challenging – but rewarding; requiring high levels of student engagement with the materials.

The course employs a variety of assessment mechanisms, blending formal examinations and continuous assessment. This includes:
