About Molecular Medicine, MSc - at University of East Anglia (UEA)

This course will help you to understand the massive steps forward in science, to develop treatments, and possibly, in the future, create cures.

Study

The programme emphasises experimental sciences and will make use of UEA's outstanding research facilities.

PART I will be taught via face to face lectures, workshops, problem based learning sessions and hands on experiments in UEA's innovative biomedical laboratories. The modules studied will provide you with the opportunity to develop expert skills in data analysis, critical evaluation, laboratory working and report writing in the industry of molecular medicine.

PART II includes an opportunity to enhance your research skills via a major research project. You will design experiments and carry out original research on a chosen topic with an invaluable training environment, preparing and presenting all your findings in a detailed and thoroughly-researched proposal.

Structure

Assessment will be through a combination of formal exams, laboratory reports, coursework assignments, presentations and problem based learning sessions. In addition a research project will be submitted as a formal, bound dissertation and assessed by both external and internal examiners.

Teaching

The MSc Molecular Medicine draws upon the world-leading, highly regarded research consistently conducted by the School of Biomedical Sciences at UEA and partner institutes across the Norwich Research Park.

Employability

MSc graduates will obtain skills that are highly sought-after in medical research, the pharmaceutical industry and the health services. As well as studying fundamental theory, you will develop valuable transferable skills through Personal Development Sessions, including presentation skills and time-management.

Entry requirements

Open to students with a good first degree (min 2.1 or equivalent) in Life or Physical Sciences. Candidates without a relevant degree but with previous employment in a biomedical company or related research experience will also be considered.
