About Human Movement Sciences at University of Groningen

How does the nervous system control voluntary movement? What are the benefits of exercise? And are these things the same for all people? Find out in this programme.

The two-year Master's programme is meant for students who arefascinated by the complexity of human movement. You will studyhuman movement from multiple perspectives, using theories fromMedicine, Biology, Mathematics and Behavioural Sciences.
In this programme, you will acquire an advanced theoreticalunderstanding of human movement. You will also gain research skillsand professional skills, learning to apply your knowledge in apractical setting.
The programme has two central themes. In 'motor function andcognition in healthy ageing' you will explore how physical activityand innovative solutions can prevent chronic diseases, and preservecognitive function. You will also study slow aging. In'rehabilitation and functional recovery' you will improve yourunderstanding of impaired movement and the restoration offunctioning in rehabilitation practices.
It is possible to do a crossover between the Master's programmes inHuman Movement Sciences and Sport Sciences.

  • or education and experience on a comparable level (includingprofound knowledge of research methods, statistics and academicwriting)**
  • preferably high school degree with English, Mathematics,Physics, and Biology being part of the exam (up until lastyear)

  • OR education and experience on a comparable level(1)
  • AND high school degree (VWO, or HAVO for HBO students) withEnglish, Mathematics, Physics, and Biology being part of theexam(2)
