About Traffic Psychology and Sustained Mobility at University of Groningen

Modern life and society require people to stay mobile. This master equips you with the knowledge & skills to study human behaviour in traffic and to conceive of interventions that keep people mobile.

How do we manage to process all the information that we arebombarded with in busy traffic? How do we master driving a car, atask that is very complex at first but later can be so boring thatwe fall asleep behind the steering wheel? Why do we think we cansend a text message while cycling (while others cannot)? And if wegrow old, how can we take care we can still get from A to Bourselves? Is a shocking campaign moreeffective than a more neutral one? Can we do anything against roadrage? What is the effect of ecstasy on driving behaviour? And isdriving with a personality disorder safe?

These are questions we try to answer in Traffic Psychology.

This programme makes you an expert in this field.Different disciplines cover the broad theme of mobility and offercourses that examine social perspectives, that consider how adecline in the ability to process information affects mobility, andthat focus on the clinical effects of ageing (e.g. dementia). Apractical course element provides hands-on training usingstate-of-the-art assessment techniques and instruments. This willenable you to acquire the skills you will need in the applied andresearch field, e.g. for assessment in the field and in advanceddriving simulators.
