About Language and Cognition at University of Groningen

How is language stored in the brain? How do we acquire a foreign language? Is it possible to forget your mother tongue? Which factors play a role in effective communication?

Language and Cognition is a selective two-year ResearchMaster's program that prepares you for entry into a related PhDprogram, or other research positions. The program offers a uniquecombination of neuro- and psycholinguistics, theoreticallinguistics, developmental linguistics, computational linguisticsand communications science. The key focus of the Research Master'sprogram is on the cognitive aspects and processes underlying humanlanguage - and their interaction, which is the focus area of excellent, multidisciplinary research carried out in the Centre forLanguage and Cognition Groningen (CLCG) and the Groningen ResearchSchool for Behavioural and Cognitive Neuroscience (BCN).

The program is meant for talented students from allover the world who aspire to doresearch in the field ofLinguistics. After finishing the degree, you will have acquiredessential research skills and fundamental knowledge of linguisticsanalysis, language development, and language processing. Job prospects

After graduation, you are well prepared for a career inresearch. In fact, this programme is an ideal stepping stone to aPhD position at a university. About 80% of our students continuetheir studies with a PhD position. You can conduct research inLinguistics, such as Neuro- or Clinical Linguistics, LanguageDevelopment or Theoretical Linguistics. Other options are SpeechTechnology, and Communication and Computer Linguistics.

After graduation, you are well prepared for a career inresearch. In fact, this track is an ideal stepping stone to a PhDposition at a university. You can conduct research in Linguistics,such as Neuro- or Clinical Linguistics, Language Development orTheoretical Linguistics. Other options are Speech Technology, andCommunication and Computer Linguistics.

During the research master's programme in Linguistics you willacquire a wide-ranging set of skills useful in a wide range ofdomains. These include:
