MGeog with Planning is an exciting new programme offered for the first time this year. It offers the opportunity to take three years of courses from the BA/BSc Geography programme and then a specialist fourth year in Planning which leads to a Master of Geography with Planning qualification that aims to provide students with an understanding of the full range of professional skills and knowledge relevant for future careers in planning practice. The programme is expected to be fully accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI). Unlike freestanding RTPI accredited masters programmes, all four years of this programme are eligible for student loan support.
The first three years of the programme will be primarily undertaken in the Geography Department, whilst the final year of the programme will be taught alongside other postgraduate masters students within the Planning and Environmental Management discipline. The Manchester Geography department has been rated 6th in the UK and 8th globally and Planning at the University of Manchester is one of the longest established and largest professionally recognised schools in the UK which has been delivering professionally recognised programmes in town planning since 1952. A-level
Grades AAA. General Studies is usually excluded from a standard offer.
We do not require a pass in the Science Practical Assessment.
Duration of A-level study
The University welcomes applications from applicants who have either sat their examinations early or have followed an accelerated curriculum and spent three years studying A-levels where the examinations have been taken over two years. For those studying an advanced curriculum where the examinations are spread over three years, consideration for an offer will be at the discretion of the admissions tutor for that subject.
AS-level
Two AS-Levels are not accepted in place of one A-Level.
Unit grade information
The University of Manchester welcomes the provision of unit grade information which, like all other available information, will inform the consideration of applications. Unit grades will not normally form part of offer conditions, except for Mathematics programmes.
GCSE
Minimum grade C in English Language and Mathematics (Grade 4 or above in the newly reformed GCSEs in England).
We do not accepted applied GCSE mathematics courses.
Key Skills qualification
The University warmly welcomes applications from students studying the Key Skills qualification. However, as the opportunities to take these modules are not open to all applicants, currently this is not an essential requirement of the University.
International Baccalaureate
32 points overall. 6,6,6 at Higher Level
English language
Students whose first language or language of instruction is not English may be asked to provide evidence of fluency in English by achieving scores in English language tests as follows: IELTS 6.5 overall, 6.5 in writing, no sub-section below 6.0, TOEFL iBT overall score of 90 with a minimum score of 22 in writing and 20 in the other subsections, Pearson PTE overall score of 62 with a minimum score of 62 in writing and 55 in the other subsections or Cambridge CAE grade A or Cambridge CPE grade C.
English language test validity
Some English language test results are only valid for two years. Your English language test report must be valid on the start date of the course.

Acceptable on its own or in combination with other qualifications. Applications from students studying for this qualification are welcome and all such applicants will be considered on an individual basis. Contact the University for further information.
AQA Baccalaureate
AQA Bacc with Distinction
BTEC Extended Diploma
BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma: BTEC Extended Diploma with a minimum of 150 credits awarded at Distinction and the remaining 30 credits at Merit.
BTEC Level 3 Diploma: Grade A at A level plus the BTEC Diploma with a minimum of 100 credits awarded at Distinction and the remaining 20 credits at Merit.
BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma with grade Distinction plus A level grades AA.
Access to HE Diploma
Applications are considered on an individual basis. Overall, 60 credits are required with 45 at level 3. Minimum of 30 credits with a Distinction grade, plus 15 credits with a Merit grade.
Advanced Placement tests
The University welcomes applicants with the AP qualification. Such applications will be considered on an individual basis.

Advanced/Progression Diploma

Non-standard educational routes
If you have followed a non-standard educational route and have been, for example, educated at home, your application will be considered against the standard entry criteria of the course to which you applied. You will be required to demonstrate that you meet the academic entry requirements as specified for the course. We will also require a reference which should be written by somebody who knows you well enough, in an official capacity, to write about you and your suitability for higher education.
