The University's history dates back to 1908 when it was first established as Portsmouth Municipal College. The in-house recruitment agency gives information about voluntary, part-time and graduate roles while their staff support a wide range of events and sessions including CV building, writing effective applications, exploring specific job areas and regular employer presentations, giving you the opportunity to meet employers directly.
International Student Support
International Student Advisers based at the University offer advice and support to all international students, including visa assistance and police registration. They organise an orientation programme for new students, and offer an airport pick-up service. They also arrange social events and coach trips.
Research at the University of Portsmouth has been rated 'world-class' in the most recent Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2008. Centres of international excellence include the Institute of Biomedical and Biomolecular Sciences, the Centre for European and International Studies Research and the Institute of Cosmology and Gravitation.
Sports and Recreation
The University has excellent sporting facilities that include two sports halls, squash courts, two dance/martial arts studios, a synthetic turf pitch, netball courts and grass pitches for football, rugby and lacrosse. The athletic union has around 50 clubs ranging from mainstream sports such as football, netball, rugby and hockey, tchoukball and skydiving.
The students’ union is committed to increase the opportunities available to students for personal professional development and organises the best student events in the city. It also offers guidance and support on finance, academic and personal problems.
