Course Information

Our graduates make great teachers. It's that simple. OFSTED have always given us high marks for our Initial Teacher Education (ITE). And the Good Teacher Training Guide 2013 put our PGDE in the UK top ten for quality and employment prospects. The course helps you develop an understanding of research, policies and practice relating to education in general and secondary education in particular. And you'll analsye and reflect on what you learn to connect research with the classroom. We cover English, geography, history, maths, languages and science subjects. You'll learn everything the qualified teacher needs to know about planning, teaching, learning, assessing, policies and processes. There are seminars, group sessions, tutorials, individual consultations and practical activities. You'll spend 24 of the 36 weeks in schools. Assessment is continuous. Sheffield gives you a way of approaching your work that will stay with you throughout your career. Our graduates are lifelong learners who know how to use classroom-based research to develop their professional practice. Formerly Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)
