Why choose this course?
This course will provide you with the knowledge and understanding of business and accounting theories and their strategic applications to organisations operating within a highly digitised and changing global environment. Through the use of a wide range of concepts, approaches, research techniques and e-learning forums the course will equip you with a range of personal and intellectual skills in preparation for a career in accounting, financial, banking and general management fields.
You will be provided with opportunities to advance your ICT skills through the use of applications software, accounting packages and other technologies. The diversity of topical areas covered in the study programme will help you develop your own understanding of global citizenship applicable to local, national and international communities.
Having successfully completed this award, you will have the appropriate skills to consider careers not just in accountancy, but also in general management, banking and finance.
The degree can also be used as the basis for postgraduate study in the area of finance and general business management for example the Business School has a MSc in Finance and Accounting which dovetails in with the knowledge and skills obtained on this programme.
Please note that part-time study requires attendance during the daytime.

Having successfully completed this award, you will be able suitably qualified to consider careers in general management, accountancy, banking or finance. Business managers who have an in depth knowledge of finance and accounting techniques which are highly sought after in general management and within the financial services sector. You may also gain exemptions from the professional accountancy bodies for some of the modules studied and this will provide you with a head start in developing a career in accountancy.

What skills will you gain?
At the end of this course you, the student, will be able to:
1. Develop critical thinking through the application of concepts and principles of accounting and business theories to a wide range of organisations and situations both nationally and internationally.
2. Assess the impact of changing internal and external environmental forces on organisations' financial and business activities and practices.
3. Develop ICT and other interpersonal skills through a range of approaches, including selecting appropriate tools and techniques for analysing and interpreting data and information using applications software, including accounting software packages and other technologies.
4. Develop a range of accounting skills and management knowledge which will be attractive to employers operating at a local, national and international level.
Students must have studied a minimum of two years post GCSE level. However, it is expected that some applicants will be mature students with work experience, who wish to further their career development.
