About Entrepreneurship at Westminster Business School, London, University of Westminster

Course summary

This innovative course is a practice-led programme aiming to facilitate your learning journey, to help you develop knowledge, skills and test your entrepreneurial mindset, whether you decide to lead the creation of new companies or work on business development inside enterprises.

We provide aspiring entrepreneurial students with the opportunity to gain a broad understanding of entrepreneurial learning theories, and put this into practice within a supportive, creative and challenging entrepreneurial environment. In addition to developing critical business skills through different business challenges, the course aims to enable you to develop criticality and communication skills, cultivate effective networks and work with business mentors and coaches to research the market and design a business concept capable of success.

Throughout the programme, students will have the opportunity to be in constant contact with London's vibrant business communities through our networks of entrepreneurs, accelerators and investors. London is our campus! You also connect beyond London providing international and global business experiences which gives you an excellent insight into the local cultures and the way of doing business.

Delivered full-time, you will undergo intensive team coaching sessions where theoretical knowledge will be applied to your business. A specially trained Team Coach will be on hand to support, motivate and empower you and your team to excel in your entrepreneurial endeavours. You will be able to draw expertise from within our Business School. By the end of this course, you will be able to demonstrate professional entrepreneurial, business management and leadership skills. You will also acquire the transferable and cognitive skills necessary for lifelong personal and professional development.

We will create the scenarios through business challenges to enable you and your team to develop the right business skills. You will learn through doing, by identifying and refining a viable business opportunity. You will work on your challenges collaboratively in your team in an open-plan co-working space, designed specifically for our entrepreneurship community. This scenario will allow you to think of ways the business could generate income, manage the finances of the business and the expectations of the customer, as well as solving day to day team and business problems.

Across the three years of the course, you will have the opportunity to develop key skillsets including enterprise awareness (knowing what it means to be an entrepreneur), entrepreneurial mindset (building motivation and interest), effectiveness and overall entrepreneurial capabilities (sharpening skills through experience and continuous personal development). For more information on how this course is taught and assessment methods, please refer to the Programme Specification document below.

Entrepreneurial careers transcend specific job titles, career paths, and industries. While it can mean starting a new business, entrepreneurial careers can be found (or created) in just about every field, industry, and organisation. Entrepreneurs create products, services, companies, and even industries. Some work for themselves, or a family business. Others work within traditional companies.

Those with entrepreneurial aspirations typically pursue one of the following career paths:

New Venture Creation: Launching a company, buying a business or franchise, starting a new venture in a family enterprise, or commercialising a technology.

Career s In Existing Entrepreneurial ventures : Working for a start-up, small business, corporate entrepreneur, strategic entrepreneurial unit, or other areas, such as education, research, public policy, and accelerators.
