High quality staff and Business School facilities

Supanan from Thailand

Class of 2015, Operations Management (Dual Award) MSc/MSc

Choosing Newcastle
I heard about Newcastle University from many of my friends who praised the high quality staff and Business School facilities and recommended that I apply. I did some research before applying and was impressed by the highly accredited reputation of the University.

My course
This unique Dual Award programme is the best that I could have hoped for and the modules offered were spot on and suitable for my needs. Most of the modules offered at other universities I researched seemed relatively similar, if not identical, to each other.

The modules for this Dual Award programme offered something different and the availability of additional modules such as Technology Change, Innovation Management and other modules offered by the University of Groningen were much more appealing.

It seemed to me that Newcastle had thought of the need in the market and prepared the course so that students would graduate with the necessary skills. I felt that this was a great opportunity not be missed.

Key benefits of the programme

I have gained invaluable experience through this Dual Award programme that no other single degree programme could have provided: the opportunity to experience two different education systems and two distinct cultures which is extremely useful in this globalised era. Other than that, all the modules incorporated in this programme have provided me with a useful skillset that covers many aspects of operations.

Career aspirations
My father runs a family business in the packaging industry and I felt that my Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering alone was not sufficient for me to manage the company. Gaining knowledge about operations and supply chain management through this Masters programme has enabled me to visualise different aspects and processes of the company and has increased my ability to pursue a career in operations, not necessary just within my own family business but within other industries as well.

I am interested in handling the supply chain as a whole - contacting suppliers, dealing with production plans, procuring important machineries and staying up-to-date with new technologies.

Gain international experience and connections with a Dual Masters

Michael from the UK

Class of 2015, Advanced International Business Management (Dual Award) MSc/MSc

Choosing Newcastle
I chose to take my undergraduate degree and then my Masters at Newcastle because it’s an excellent university and well respected across the country. It's also not too far away from my home, Hartlepool, which was really convenient since I was able to continue living at home during my postgraduate studies and work part-time.

Choosing this Dual Award programme
I was really attracted to this Dual Award degree since the programme offered real value for the tuition fee and the opportunity to experience life in another country. It also offered a diversity of modules which covered business strategy, foreign direct investment and corporate governance.

My course
Key benefits have been the international experience and connections I’ve made over the duration of the programme. I am capable of adapting to new environments and it's given me a wider world view.

Being able to study at two universities with high world rankings has given me a real advantage. The unique programme offered by these two universities differs a lot from more traditional masters programmes.

It’s not just about the modules and content but the actual experience itself. Being able to live away from home in a country where I didn't speak the language is something I believe will enhance my employability. Although the tuition was in English, I gained an understanding of basic Dutch and became almost fluent in German.

I was able to visit Germany three times while I lived in the Netherlands and several other countries including Belgium. I am hoping to work on the continent, so for me to speak more than one language is a real selling point for me.

Studying at postgraduate level
Through undergraduate and postgraduate study, I've learned knowledge that can directly be applied to the real world. A master's goes into so much more depth than undergraduate study. Additionally, with so many people having undergraduate degrees, sometimes it's necessary to continue into further education, otherwise it's difficult to stand out from other graduates.

Opportunities for international exposure gained through working with a diverse group of peers

Haritima from India

Class of 2014, MBA

Choosing Newcastle
The course at the Bsuiness School offered the full package I was looking for. Newcastle is renowned as an excellent University with high world rankings and accreditations. It offered fantastic facilities such as a University Library with 24/7 opening hours and support from a great Career Service.

I was attracted by the opportunities for international exposure gained through working with a diverse group of peers, the unique learning opportunities on offer and the thought of a great student experience in a scenic city.  I’ve enjoyed every day I’ve been here in Newcastle - it’s exceeded my expectations.

My course
The design and structure of the programme meant that, from day one, I was able to practically apply my knowledge; working in teams on live projects and case studies from European and International companies. These companies actually consider our input analysis for their ongoing performance and growth. It’s fantastic to know our learning is also influencing future business practice.

A great benefit of the programme has been the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with a wide range of MBA students and faculty members. This, combined with the knowledge I’ve gained from the modules I’ve studied has enabled me to develop an enhanced business perspective and management toolkit.

The events offered by the School and University, such as 'Return on Innovation' and 'Rise Up FLUX', have also given me a great opportunity to network with a wide variety of guest speakers and personalities.

I am developing a higher level of knowledge and expertise, critical analytical skills and a global mind set. I’ve worked on a variety of projects and case studies across a broad spectrum of disciplines including human resources, finance and management consultancy. I’m also developing my presentation skills which will benefit me when delivering business cases and attending interviews.

Career aspirations
After completing the MBA programme, I intend to join an organisation in Management Consulting either for Information Technology or Financial Services domains which will enable me to use my skill set and continue my professional development as a value creator, people developer and business operator. I intend to establish my own consulting firm in the long run.
