About Sport and Health Sciences (Sociology of Sport and Physical Activity), MSc - at University of Exeter

Since 2006/07 the School of Sport and Health Sciences has offered a new pathway within the MSc in Sport and Health Sciences in the Sociology of Sport and Physical Activity. The pathway draws on the expertise of the staff within the School’s internationally recognised Qualitative Research Unit (QRU). . Staff in both institutions have a long history of research collaboration and the MSc is underpinned by an on-going collaborative research programme. MSc teaching staff have international reputations in various aspects of sport and exercise medicine.

The principal aim of the MSc is:

  • To provide a thorough grounding in the Sociology of Sport and Physical Activity driven by the strong and unique reputation for internationally-excellent research of the Qualitative Research Unit in the School of Sport and Health Sciences.



It aims to achieve this by:

  • The provision of a sound basis in social science research training with specific application to the Sociology of Sport and Physical Activity, as well as a research dissertation.

  • The provision of modules allied to the research expertise of the staff within the School.


Entry requirements Normally a first or second class degree in a relevant discipline.
