The Four-Year PhD typically begins with a taught Masters-level course designed to provide you with the methodological skills for advanced research. On successful completion of the Masters degree, you may progress to the doctorate. The second and third years will include further specialist subject training, together with research and the Institute may make available teaching apprenticeships with modest remuneration. The fourth year will normally be devoted to completion of your doctoral thesis.

Applicants for the research programmes are advised to check the research interests of staff and make preliminary enquiries about supervision before making an application. Our website also provides guidelines for preparing a research proposal.
