About Classics and Ancient History, MA - at University of Exeter

It can be taken over as a one-year full-time or two-year part-time programme. There are three compulsory elements: the core module applicable to the chosen pathway; a skills module in research methodology; and a 20,000 word dissertation. In addition students take two other elements, a language module in Greek or Latin, taught at all levels from beginners to post-degree advanced level, and an option chosen from a range of choices designated for each pathway. All MA’s can be taken as independent one-year programmes or as the first year of a four-year programme leading to the PhD (see Research Degrees).

There are five specialised pathways: Alternative Histories Through Art and Archaeology, Ancient Drama and Society, Food and Culture in Antiquity, Hellenistic Culture, and Roman Myth and History, each separately described.

Entry requirementsNormally a 2:1 in Classics, Classical Studies, Ancient History or other relevant subject (e.g. Drama, English, History). Prior knowledge of Latin and/or Greek is not essential.
