You will graduate having learned the medical expertise and skills to help maintain and promote individual and community health in Australia and around the world.

Gain your qualification with support from medical education experts and medical and inter-professional health care practitioners. The five-year Bachelor of Medical Science degree and Doctor of Medicine – Joint Medical Program (MD-JMP) is offered by the University of Newcastle in partnership with the University of New England and Hunter New England Local Health District and Central Coast Local Health District.

Entry requirements

All applicants must satisfy the minimum academic requirement based on their most recent studies either secondary or tertiary. Your academic eligibility will be assessed when you lodge the direct application.

Additional Requirements

Additional selection requirements apply for this program. All applicants must satisfy the personal qualities requirement. Your personal qualities are considered just as important and influential to the learning and practice of medicine as your academic abilities. Applicants who satisfy the academic requirement will be invited to the University of Newcastle to undertake the face-to-face personal qualities assessment consisting currently of Multiple Skills Assessment (interview). Travel to this interview is at the applicant’s own expense.

English Language Proficiency Requirements

All applicants must meet the English Language Proficiency standard requirements prior to their admission by demonstrating completion of a recognised qualification.

Many applicants will be able to satisfy these requirements by holding certain qualifications undertaken in English, from a specific list of countries. If you have lodged an application for admission, and you do not automatically satisfy the requirements, you will be advised of this, as it will impact on your eligibility to receive an offer of admission. You will need to demonstrate and prove your proficiency in English via additional tests and qualifications that are accepted by the University of Newcastle.
