About Nutritional Sciences, MSc - at University of Nottingham

This accredited course to designed to enable you to specialise in nutrition. It is designed for graduates in biological sciences and related subjects. As an accredited degree, you can join the Association for Nutrition register for nutritionists when you graduate.

You will study the latest trends in the field of nutrition, and build the interpersonal skills you need to develop a future nutrition career.

Key topics include:

  • molecular nutrition
  • public health nutrition
  • international nutrition and a sustainable global diet

Our graduates go on to work across nutrition and food companies such as Slimming World, Protein World and Danone. Some set up their own nutrition businesses. Others work as nutritionists in health services, for example working for the NHS in mental health nutrition support, or internationally, working for the Ghana Armed Forces.

Modules

  • Modules cover key topics in nutritional sciences. You'll study nutrition and metabolism, to understand the role of nutrition in a variety of physiological and pathological situations.  You'll study molecular nutrition to understand how nutrients impact on cellular processes. You'll study public health nutrition to understand the relationship between diet, health and disease.
  • If you are studying for the masters programme, you'll learn research skills in preparation for your project. You will carry out a research project supervised by a specialist. This will involve the application of investigative, critical and analytical skills, and the presentation of a report. There is a poster presentation at an annual postgraduate research symposium.

Entry requirements

IELTS: 6.5 (with no less than 6.0 in any element). 

2:2 (or international equivalent) in a biological science subject, excluding nutrition or closely related degrees.

Examples of related degrees include biology, physiology, sports science, food science and psychology.
