Overview

This innovative course will prepare you to gain the real-life knowledge and skills needed to promote the health and wellness of individuals and communities.

It has been designed for:

  • those planning to work in the health promotion/public health arena
  • individuals who have a public health/health promotion remit within their current role eg:
    • nurses*
    • midwives*
    • voluntary workers
    • people involved in the health and fitness industry
    • allied health professionals
    • people working with local authorities
    • health promotion media campaigns
    • sexual health workers
    • youth workers.

Why choose this course?
On this course, you will learn about the major determinants of individuals and communities health (eg: social, cultural, economic and political) and gain the knowledge and skills necessary to plan, deliver and evaluate innovative health promotion interventions.

Key topic areas will include:

  • determinants of health
  • surveillance and assessment of the population's health and wellbeing
  • assessing the evidence of effectiveness of interventions, programmes and services
  • leadership and collaborative working.

Students undertaking this course will be eligible to apply for membership with the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH).

*Professionals with a health related qualification at Diploma/Advanced Diploma level e.g. Nurses, Midwives or other health care professionals may be able to enter the second or third year of the course. Please contact the course team for further information.

Funding

Help with funding is available to a range of students, whether you are studying full or part-time, in your home country or overseas.

You may be eligible for a student loan to cover the cost of tuition fees or a maintenance loan to support you during your studies.   • Full Time Undergraduate Bursary: a £3,000 award for new undergraduate students.
  • Path to Success Scholarship: a £4,000 award for students on a four-year degree course with a foundation year.

Please note fees are paid for each year of study unless otherwise stated. You will be required to re-enrol and pay fees at the beginning of each academic year. Entry requirements

Entry requirements

For entry to year one of the course applicants should have:

  • an interest in health and health promotion
  • 96 UCAS points
  • Plus

  • GCSE English and Maths at Grade C or equivalent.

International students need to meet our English language requirement at either IELTS at 6.0 or above and a minimum of 5.5 for each of the 4 individual components (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening).
