Course summary

Overview
This course meets the stage one Health Psychology training requirements developed by the Division of Health Psychology of the British Psychological Society. 
Our graduates are working and/or studying in industry, academia, charitable organisations and the NHS. 
Why choose this course?
The course provides a complete grounding in the theory, themes, professional issues and practical skills central to stage one Health Psychology training. 
The course has established links with health organisations where students gain work experience and carry out research. 
You will also have an opportunity to carry out carry out health psychology research with Swiss Reinsurance Company (generally known as Swiss Re) and the Working Towards Wellbeing (WTW) team. 
Research is jointly supervised by Health Psychologists at WTW, Swiss Re and UWL. Swiss Re is the world's largest insurer.
You can also train with Smokefree Ealing to deliver health promotion events in the community and with Pyramid where they can work on a children's psychosocial intervention.
You will be encouraged to present your work at health psychology conferences. Students who successfully complete the course have fulfilled the stage one training requirements which are a first step towards Chartered Psychologist status and registration with the Health and Care Professions Council as a Health Psychologist. 

Tutor Information
This course is run by the School of Human and Social Sciences to provide you with both the high-quality teaching and the personal attention you need to make the most of your University education.
The staff team within the school are committed to providing an engaging and exciting learning experience in all areas of study, and the level of student support is outstanding. 
The School of Human and Social Sciences teaching staff includes:
Course Leader for MSc Health Psychology Professor Anne Manyande who is a chartered psychologist and a full member of the Division of Health Psychology. She is also an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society.
Post-Doctoral Researcher Dr Caroline Lafarge who is a member of the British Psychological Society and the NHS England Clinical Reference Group for Complex Obstetrics.

  • Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner
  • University Lecturer
  • Community Mental
  • Health Worker.
When you have completed this course successfully, you will be eligible to apply for Stage 2 training in Health Psychology, which provides Chartered Health Psychologist status. 
You can also apply for further study at MPhil or PhD level, or apply for further training in other psychology professions.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

Applicants must hold, or be eligible for, the Graduate Basis for Chartered membership (GBC) of the
British Psychological Society (BPS) with usually an upper second or first class award. Applicants who do not have an upper second award may be considered if they:

- Can demonstrate evidence of practical experience relevant to Health Psychology.

- Have attained an additional qualification relevant to Health Psychology.

- Can show evidence of attainments during their undergraduate degree which indicate particular strengths in Health Psychology.

If you are not eligible for the Graduate Basis for Chartered membership (GBC) of the British Psychological Society, you may wish to apply for a place on our Graduate Diploma in Psychology. The Diploma offers a fast route to eligibility for GBC - the first step towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist.

International students need to meet our English language requirement at either IELTS at 7.0 or above, and a minimum of 7.0 for each of the 4 individual components (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening).
