IFM Institut Français de la Mode

IFM (Institut Français de la Mode) is a non-profit state-recognised school founded in 1986 by Pierre Bergé and professionals from the fashion industry, and supported by the French Ministry of Industry. In 2016 it was ranked number 3 fashion school worldwide by The Business of Fashion (Masters category).

In 2016, IFM announced a strategic alliance with Ecole de la chambre syndicale de la couture parisienne, an institution founded in 1927 and praised for the excellence of its teaching, combining creativity and technical savoir-faire.

IFM offers postgraduate academic programs and executive education in either fashion management or fashion design. This particular blend of creativity and business acumen are at the heart of all of IFM’s programmes: Fashion Design Postgraduate Programme (in English), Postgraduate Programme in Fashion Management (in French), MSc in International Luxury Management (in English), Global Fashion Management Executive MBA (in French and English), IFM Entrepreneurs (in French) and Summer School programmes (French or English).

Paris, place of business and culture, is fully part of IFM students’ experience. During the course of the programme they are a stone’s throw away from all the companies which count in the fashion and luxury industry.

Highly selective and acknowledged as one of France’s top Grandes Ecoles by recruiters, IFM has deeply-rooted ties with the fashion and luxury industry to ensure that students embrace successful and fulfilling careers.

Its circle of corporate sponsors includes world-recognised brands such as Chanel, Hermès, Saint Laurent, Christian Dior Couture, Kenzo, Louis Vuitton or L’Oréal. This support allows IFM to offer an incomparable scholarship scheme for its students.

IFM’s 2,000 alumni include designers such as Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski (Hermès), Guillaume Henry (Nina Ricci), Pablo Coppola (Bally), Tuomas Merikoski (Aalto)… Other alumni hold roles in areas such as product development, purchasing, operations, retail, consulting, wholesale and buying management, digital, brand image and identity, visual merchandising, etc.

IFM seeks talent all over the world, aiming to educate the creative minds and business leaders of tomorrow.

Academic and market research are important assets of IFM, offering numerous publications in social and human sciences applied to fashion and design, as well as professional guidelines for decoding the profound economic and structural changes in the sector in terms of product strategy, consumer behavior and retail strategies.

This industry expertise, combined with that of IFM’s faculty, enriches the experience offered in our postgraduate and executive education programs. In addition, IFM offers a part-time Executive MBA program with unique opportunities for international mobility (New York, Hong Kong).

Finally, IFM opens to a wider audience through public conferences and library resources.

Student Reviews

Guillaume HENRY (Class of 2001), Creative Director, Nina Ricci

IFM turns its students into fashion design professionals. I was impressed by the pace of the projects and by the quality of the faculty dedicated to our program. IFM puts you as close as possible to the reality of the industry, and embraces all the steps of the creative process, right up to the end product. A 360-degree learning experience!

Vogue, 2 September 2015

Since its creation in 1986, IFM has been considered as one of the best fashion design and fashion management schools.

Tuomas MERIKOSKI (Class of 2002), Founder of Aalto International

Usually nothing beats real experience in the industry, but IFM is definitely the best program to prepare you for it. IFM gave me the opportunity to mature my approach and pushed me to dig into who I was as a designer. Hard work, failures and successful projects, in an obsession to push you to the limit - this is the recipe to elevate a student from a bachelor to a master.
